William "Bill" A. Montgomery, age 82, of Portland passed away on Thursday October 10, 2024 at his residence.  He was born in Portland on January 12, 1942 the son of Ivan and Maude (Sherry) Montgomery.  He was married on August 27, 1966 to Sally Shewell who survives.  Bill had worked for Joyce Dayton and the Parks Department for the city of Portland.  He was a 1960 Poling High School graduate and enjoyed cars and fishing.

Surviving is his wife Sally, one son Brian A. Montgomery (wife Deborah) of Portland and one daughter Kim Hinshaw (Kevin Sills) of Pennville, Six grandchildren Quentin Hinshaw, Jasmine Link (husband Tony), Andrea Fortman (husband Jeff), Danielle Engelbrecht (husband Josh), Tabbi Wasson and Jeremy Wasson (wife Krissy) and Eighteen great grandchildren

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.  Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.  Baird-Freeman Funeral Home are handling the arrangements.
