V. Maxine Garringer age 94, of rural Portland passed away Friday October 9, 2020 in Albany Healthcare. She was born in Marion, Ohio on November 1, 1925 the daughter of Bernard and Minnie Mae (Abbott) Coats. She was married on September 24, 1946 to Morton Garringer and he passed away on December 11, 2011. Maxine had worked for Jay Schools at Bloomfield Elementary and earlier at Jay Garment. She was a member of Collett Nazarene Church where she taught Sunday School and was a youth leader. She was a graduate of Gov. I.P. Gray High School.
Surviving are five sons Wade Garringer (wife Pam) of Mooreland, Indiana, Rodney Garringer (wife Nona) of Selma, Michael Garringer (wife Cathy) of Portland, John Garringer (wife Julie) of Ridgeville and Donald Garringer (wife Kellie) of Muncie, Brother in law Gene Dynes, Sister in laws Idola Coats and Carol Garringer, Nineteen grandchildren, Twenty nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be Friday October 16, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Collett Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Billy Stanton presiding. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home and Friday at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM . Memorials can be made to the Collett Nazarene Church.
