Susan Kay Blackford age 79 of Portland passed away Friday December 28, 2018 in the IU Health Jay County Hospital. She was born in Portland October 17, 1939 the daughter of J Edwin and Kathryn (Straley) Beard. She was married September 7, 1958 to Ralph Blackford who survives. She was a receptionist at Sheller-Globe Corporation and retired from Stewart Brothers Furniture in Dunkirk. She was a member of West Walnut Street Church of Christ, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Portland Kiwanis Club as secretary, 1957 Portland High School graduate and was an avid card player.

Surviving are her husband Ralph, one son David Blackford (wife Jennifer) of Portland and one daughter Barbara Caster (husband Bill) of Portland, one sister Rebecca Ann Bailey of New Castle, IN., Five grandchildren and Eight great grandchildren

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Gil Alicea presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the West Walnut Street Church of Christ or State of the Heart Hospice.
