Steven J. Miller age 68 of rural Portland passed away Sunday morning in the IU Jay County Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born in Jay County August 15, 1949 the son of Robert and Gladys (Thornton) Miller. He was married July 16, 1971 to Debra Huey who survives. He was a self employed carpenter and contractor and had worked for Cline – Wilt Lumber and Quality Glass. He was a member and trustee at Westchester United Methodist Church and 1967 Portland High School graduate.

Surviving are his wife Debra, one son Ryan Miller of Paris, KY., two daughters Hope Jones (husband David) of Portland and Laurie Chrisman (husband Brian) of Bryant, one brother John Miller (wife Terry) of Bend, OR., two sisters Charlotte Mumby of Portland and Donna Campbell (husband Kim) of Bloomington, Six grandchildren Nate, Brennan, Reagan, Landin, Zander and Lorelei.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Westchester United Methodist Church with Pastor Darrel Borders presiding. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home and Thursday from 9:00 – 10:00 at the church. Memorials can be made to the Westchester United Methodist Church.
