Scott Allen Newton, age 59, of rural Portland passed away on Saturday July 16, 2022. Scott was born in Portland on February 11, 1963 the son of Steve Newton and Jacqueline Bricker. He was married in 1995 to Shannon Witt who survives. Scott had worked as a grocer with Ludwig's and Gerber Grocers and also was a rancher. He was a 1981 Jay County High School graduate, member of National Trappers Association, Indiana Quarter Horse Association and Indiana Trappers Association. Scott enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife Shannon, one son Chance Newton (wife Maddi) of Portland, two daughters Cameo Newton Sudhoff (husband Craig) of Fort Recovery and Dove'n Shanay Newton Alexander (husband Jacob) of Bluffton, one sister Barbara Smith (husband Gary) of Portland and three grandchildren Savannah, Khloe and Dawson Sudhoff and one grandchild expected in December Scottie Newton.

A memorial visitation will be Friday July 22, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.
