Richard M. (Dick) Newton, age 66, of Salamonia passed away on Tuesday December 6, 2022 in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Portland on May 31, 1956 the son of Richard and Genevieve (Boolman) Newton.  He was married in 1999 to Nila Schmitz who survives.  Dick had worked at Fort Recovery Industries and Vore's Welding.  He had attended The Rock Church and made two missionary trips to Uganda.

Surviving are his wife Nila, two daughters Kerioka Henkle (husband Bryan) of Portland and Melissa Newton (fiancé Davis Anderson) of Portland, his mother Genevieve Newton of Portland, step mother Mary Mae Newton of Dunkirk, three sisters Nyoka Smith of Portland, Judy Eglan of Portland and Sandra Newton of Portland, one granddaughter.  He was preceded in death by his father Richard Newton and step son Steven Dryden.

Celebration of Life services will be Monday December 12, 2022 at 7:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastors Jeff Horsman and Joe Schmidt presiding.  Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.  Memorials can be made to The family or The Rock Church for Mission Trips.  Online condolences at www.bairdfreeman.com
