Ray D. Williams, age 98, of Portland passed away on Saturday August 1, 2026 in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.  He was born in Portland on May 16, 1928 the son of John and Faye (Swhier) Williams.

Ray graduated from Portland High School, served with the US Army National Guard and was a member of Jay Lodge #87 F & AM.  He retired in 1990 with the Portland Fire Dept. where he had served as Fire Chief.

Surviving are two daughters Tamra Case of Portland and Vicki Wallace of Portland, Four grandchildren and Eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.  Burial will be in the Green Park Cemetery with military graveside rites.  Memorials can be made to the Jay County Humane Society or Jay County Cancer Society.
