Penny Sanders age 69, Portland passed away Sunday morning at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born in Portland April 6, 1948 the daughter of William and L. Maxine (Sanders) Money. She was also raised by her step-father Ralph Whitesell. She was married June 19, 1966 to James Sanders who survives. She was retired as a pharmacy tech with the Jay County Hospital and also had worked at Wal-Mart and Ponderosa. She was state president of Gamma Nu Sorority, member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Police Academy Alumni and 1966 Portland High School graduate.

Surviving are her husband Jim, one son Aaron Sanders of Portland, one daughter Lisa Holcomb (husband Aaron) of Portland, son in law J. Richard Theurer of Portland, brother Bill Money (companion Margaret) of Geneva, step-brother Richard Whitesell of Dunkirk, Eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Michelle Theurer.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastors Wayne Ward and Hugh Kelly presiding.Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in Bryant. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.
