Paul D. Shimp, age 77, of Portland passed away on Wednesday November 1, 2023 in the IU Health Jay Hospital in Portland. He was born in Bradford, Ohio on December 1, 1945 the son of Kenen R. Shimp and Treva D. (Rickert) Shimp. He lived with a foster family, Thurl and Hazel Bradburn. He was married to Nelda Van Skyock on December 7, 1968 and she survives. Paul worked at the Teledyne Forge, owner of Paul's Fire Extinguishers, was a 1965 graduate of Union City Community High School, a US Army veteran, a member of the machinist union, and attended First Church of Nazarene. Paul loved all sports, and was involved in wrestling, track, football, and basketball in high school. He also loved attending garage sales.

Surviving is his wife Nelda, one son Troy D. Shimp of Atlanta, Georgia and one daughter Robin M. Shimp.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM on Monday November 6th with Pastor Steve Cecil presiding.  Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 3:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.
