Nyoka J. Smith, age 65, of Portland passed away peacefully at her residence with her daughters by her side on Friday September 29, 2023.  She was born in Portland on September 21, 1958 the daughter of Richard and Jenny (Boolman) Newton.  Nyoka was a lifetime resident of Jay County and had worked for Pennville Custom Cabinets for 17 years and FCC for 10 years.  Nyoka loved to travel, especially to the mountains, and had been a member of the Goldwing Motorcycle Club.  Her most special moments were spent with her grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters Karen Smith of Portland, Jammie Smith Michael (husband Jim) of Winchester and Kristi Smith Brown (husband Scott) of Portland, one son Jerimiah Mock of Dunkirk, two sisters Judy Eglan and Sandy Newton of Portland, eight grandchildren Analise Lagenkamp, Hope Ullom, Mitchell Langenkamp, Cameron Lagenkamp, Reece Michael, Kajun, Korbyn and Jamiah Mock, and ten great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her dad, a brother Richard Newton and granddaughter Mariah Ullom.

Funeral services will be Friday  October 6th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM with services at 6:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery in Portland.
