Norman R. Miller age 85, rural Portland resident passed away Friday evening in Swiss Village in Berne. He was born in Portland June 13, 1932 the son of True and Dorothy (Macy) Miller. He was married August 13, 1967 to Alice Byrd who survives. He was a retired farmer. He served with the US Navy for four years, was a 1950 Bryant High School graduate, member of Westchester United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School. He served as a Jay County Commissioner, and former Optimist member. He was a 4-H Tractor Safety instructor and member of Tri State Gas Engine and Tractor Association.

Surviving are his wife Alice, three sons Barry Miller of Portland, Greg Miller (wife Shirley) of Portland and Todd Miller (wife Lori) of Portland, brother Eldon Miller of Portland , Eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son David Miller and a sister Bonnie Miller.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 AM in the Westchester United Methodist Church with Pastor Darrell Borders presiding. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #211. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home and Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 AM in the Westchester Church. Memorials can be made to the Westchester United Methodist Church.
