Madonna L. Phelps, age 75, of Portland passed away Tuesday August 12, 2025 in Reid Hospital in Richmond.  She was born in Randolph County on May 16, 1950 the daughter of Lloyd and Evelyn Jean Gannon (Jones) Sanders Jr.  She was married to George L. Phelps on August 11, 1967 who survives.  Madonna was retired as a school bus driver for Jay School Corp. retiring in 2018 after thirty eight years.  She was a 1968 Winchester High School graduate and member of Randolph County Wanna Bee Quilters.  She loved quilting, cooking and sewing.  She loved kite day with the family at the fairgrounds.  She was always a good friend and loved her special needs kids that rode her bus.

Surviving are her husband George, two daughters Denise Habegger (husband Doug) of Portland and Stacy Padgett (husband William) of Gas City, Two brothers Mike Sanders (wife Shere) of Union City and Randy Brown of Albany, two sisters Theresa Riley (husband Gary) of Portland and Dawn Stone of Virginia, Grandchildren Dustin Habegger (wife Kayla), Jaimie Habegger, Alyssa Habegger, Braeden Phelps (wife Kaitlyn), Ashton Jarvis (husband Tyler), Willow Sager (husband Nick), Eden Andrews (Sean Deems), Sydney Lott, Saylah Lott, Lyriah Padgett and Alyssa Koger, twelve great grandchildren  She was preceded in death by a daughter Amy Lott and brothers Larry and Daniel Sanders..

Private Funeral services will be held in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with burial in the Green Park Cemetery.  Memorials can be made to Jay County Humane Society.
