Louis A. Schoenlein age 94, former Portland resident passed away Sunday at his daughter's residence in Liberty, Indiana. He was born in St. Peter, Ohio September 28, 1923 the son of Peter and Veronica (Braun) Schoenlein. He was married April 29, 1947 to Mary J. Mestemaker and she passed away November 24, 2013. He was owner of Quality Cleaners and had been a custodian at East Jay Junior High School. He served on the Jay County School Board for eight years and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Surviving are three sons Rick Schoenlein (wife Debbie) of Colorado Springs, CO., Tony Schoenlein (wife Brenda) of Indianapolis and Jim Schoenlein (wife Debbie) of Dayton, Ohio, three daughters Becky Matchett (husband Rick) of Portland, Letha Harding (husband Ken) of Madison and Yvonne Wells-Scheib (husband Carl) of Liberty, Seventeen grandchildren, Fifteen great grandchildren

Mass of Christion Burial will be Saturday at 1:00 PM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Moran presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 – 1:00 in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Masses for the Schoenlein/Mestemaker Families.
