Linus F. Mescher age 78, 219 East Elder Street Portland passed away Monday evening at his residence. He was born in Yorkshire, Ohio May 29, 1938 the son of Joseph and Katherine (Walterbusch) Mescher. He was married in 1984 to Margaret Romine and she died May 25, 2013. He was a self employed barber. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion of Ft. Recovery, Optimists Club, Studebaker Club and Jay Land Antique Club.
Surviving are two step-daughters Sadonna Hinshaw of Saratoga and Barbara Whitenack of Portland, three brothers and one sister, three grandchildren and several step grand and great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son Scott Mescher and one daughter Trina Mescher and a step-son and step-daughter.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 AM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Moran presiding. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Pennville. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with a scripture service at 5:30 PM. Memorials can be made to Jay County Community Center or Jay County Humane Society.
