Karen S. Bookout, age 84, of Warren, Indiana passed away on Tuesday May 13, 2025 in Alexandria Care Center in Alexandria, Indiana.  She was born in Anderson on May 29, 1940 the daughter of Ernest and Ila (McClain) Ramsey.  She was married on December 18, 1987 to Hurley Bookout and he preceded her in death on September 11, 2022.  Karen had worked as an RN at St. Johns Hospital in Anderson and with Dr. Hanson in Elwood and also at Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne.  She was a member of Order of Eastern Star 386 and was a poetry writer having two books published.

Surviving is three sons Ken Thompson (wife Melinda) of Deltona, Florida, Keith Hobbs (life companion Deanna Brinkman) of Elwood and Kyle Hobbs (wife Trisha) of Anderson, Five grandchildren Samantha Thompson, Phillip Thompson, Devin Toole, Kendall Hobbs and Kristen Hobbs, Ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by a son Kevin Thompson and grandson Jonathan Toole.

Funeral services will be Friday May 16th at 3:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland with Pastor Joe Boggs presiding.  Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Friday.  Memorials can be made to Heritage Pointe in Warren, Indiana.
