John Max Landon, age 81, of Portland passed away on Thursday December 4, 2025 in IU Jay County Hospital. He was born in Temple, Texas on January 24, 1944 the son of Vyrl and Bonnie (Lyons) Landon. He was married on June 29, 2000 to Rebecca Espy who survives. Max served in the US Airforce, was a 1962 Portland High School graduate and attended Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a member of Sportscar Club of America, National Council of Corvette Club and Gold Wing Club. He had worked for Micro-Precision, City Machine Tool and Die and Rocket Sports Racing in Lansing, Michigan. He had been a machinist for 32 years.
Surviving is his wife Rebecca, three step daughters Cindy Hawkinson (husband Tom) of Loveland, Ohio, Kristy Kongar (husband Todd) of Berne and Brandi McCroskey (husband Ryan) of Geneva, one brother Larry Landon (wife Beth) of Portland and one sister Marla Kay Grady (husband Bruce) of Redkey, Nine step grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
There will be no services. Burial will be in the Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana. Memorials can be made to Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland.
