John Confer, age 62, of Portland passed away on Tuesday February 8, 2023 in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.  He was born in Portland on March 15, 1960 the son of Ralph and Annafaye (Sells) Confer.  He was retired from Red Gold in Geneva and was a 1978 Jay County High School graduate. John had enjoyed working on and racing go carts and working on old cars. Surviving are one son Kameron Confer of Portland, three daughters Nicole Fear (husband Shawn) of Berne, Indiana, Brittany Fisher (husband Brad) of Bryant, Indiana and Stephanie Crouch (husband Rob) of Celina, Ohio, step-daughter Kayla Dobbles of Albany, Indiana, one brother Dave Confer (wife Janet) of  Redkey, Indiana,  three sisters Virginia Jensen (husband Pat) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Helen Weirich of Cincinnatti, Ohio and Mary Hamilton (husband Dan) of Winchester, Indiana, Thirteen Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday February 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with burial in the Green Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.  Memorials can be directed to the family.
