Jay H. King age 90, 1248 West Main Street Portland passed away Friday afternoon at his residence. He was born in Portland December 3, 1925 the son of Cyrus and Lucretia (Miller) King. He was married June 7, 1953 to Alice Baeumel who survives. He was retired as an electrician with IBEW Local 855. He served with the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a Deacon, Elder and Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church, Volunteer Fireman with Portland and Bryant Fire Depts. for over 50 years, Arson Investigator, member of Jay Lodge #87 F&AM, Red Cross Lifetime Achievement winner, active in the Civil Defense, member of American Legion Post #211 and was in Portland Comets Drum and Bugle Corps, ABC Board, Boy Scout Leader and 1944 Portland High School graduate, Indianapolis 500 fan, Colts fan, avid fisherman, loved his family and was always ready to help.
Surviving are his wife Alice, two sons Daniel King (wife Carol) of Warsaw and Kevin King (wife Lori) of Fishers, one daughter Janet Jackson (husband Mark) of Piqua, Ohio and three grandchildren Nicholas King, Eric King and Ellie Jackson.
Funeral services will be Saturday April 30
th
at 1:00 P.M. In the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Stan Gockel presiding. Family will receive guests from 11:00 – 1:00 at the church. Private graveside services will follow in the Green Park Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #211. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Bryant Volunteer Fire Dept., First Presbyterian Church, Shrine Children's Hospital or State of the Heart Hospice. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
