James Edward Ward age 75, 631 East Water Street Portland passed away Friday morning at his residence. He was born in Eaton, Indiana December 2, 1940 the son of Louden and Marcella (Hill) Ward. He was owner and operator of JR Quick Shop and Ward Super Value Grocery. He had worked at Marsh Supermarkets as a meat cutter and Jay County Sheriff's Office as a jailer. He served with the U.S. Army from 1960-1962. He was a 1958 Eaton High School graduate and member of the VFW.

Surviving are one son James A. Ward (wife Bobbi) of Portland, one brother Rex Ward of Richmond and one sister Linda Sutherland of Muncie, Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Julie Ward Barron.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Arnold presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM Memorials can be made to Jay County Cancer Society or Family Lifecare Hospice.
