James R. Carter IV, age 67, of Portland, Indiana, passed away Wednesday morning at the State of the Heart Hospice Inpatient Unit at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville, Ohio. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 11, 1950, the son of James R. Carter III and Mary (Bloyd) Carter. He had worked as an air traffic controller in Jacksonville, Florida.
Surviving are his wife Cindy Carter (Timmons), a son Zach Gaskill (wife Hilarie) of Bluffton, daughters Staci Keen (husband Brian) and Mandy Ellsworth both of Portland, a brother William Carter of London, England, seven grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, October 21
st
, 2017 at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10:00AM to 11:00AM prior to the service.
Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society or the Beth Hunley Lung Journey.
