Irene M. James age 97, of rural Portland passed away Monday evening August 19, 2019 in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare. She was born in Jay County June 23, 1922 the daughter of Virgil and Mary (Schmidt) Theurer. She was married June 27, 1941 to Roy C. James and he passed away on June 17, 1997. She had worked at Berne Furniture and was a Bryant High School graduate. She was also a polio survivor.

Surviving are one son Ed James of Portland, two daughters Judy Toms Medler (husband Neil) of Portland and Mary Lou Kravitz (husband Brent) of Corydon, Indiana, Nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Ruth Ann James

A visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Choice of the donor.
