Howard G. Guntle, age 76, of Portland passed away at his residence on Saturday December 25, 2021. He was born in Celina, Ohio on March 23, 1945 the son of Howard P. and Dorothy Grace (Jones) Guntle. He was retired from Jay County Highway Department and had worked at Rockledge. He served in the US Army in Vietnam and was a member of the VFW in Fort Recovery and American Legion Post #211 in Portland.

Surviving are two sons Dustin Garrett of Bluffton and Troy, one brother Daniel Guntle (wife Marilyn) of Pennville, three sisters Mary Meyers (husband Jim) of Pennville, Marjorie Hickey of Petroleum and Beverly Hodge (companion Jim Murphy) of Portland, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three children Angela Guntle, Mary Mae Norris and Scotty Garrett, brother Larry Guntle and sister Judy Hough.

Graveside services will be held Thursday December 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Bluff Point Cemetery with Pastor Herb Hummel presiding. Military rites will follow by American Legion Post #211. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.
