Glenn "Red" Newland, age 80, of rural Portland passed away on Saturday December 13, 2025 at his residence.  He was born in Celina, Ohio on March 1, 1945 the son of James and Maxine Mae (Strait) Newland.  He was married on June 16, 1963 to Julia Whetsel and she survives. He graduated from Portland High School in 1963.  Glenn was a retired carpenter and roofer.  He was a member of Sons of American Legion, Moose Lodge and the N.R.A.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Surviving is his wife Julia, one son Glenn Newland (companion Marie Weible) of Portland, one daughter Nancy Sweet (husband John) of Greenfield, one brother Lester Newland of Fort Lawn, S.C., two sisters Connie Newland of Fort Lawn, S.C. and Elsie Cox of Muncie.  Four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two brothers Johnny Newland and Larry Newland and two sisters Betty Allred and Elsie Cox.

Visitation will be on Friday December 19th from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.  There will be no funeral service.  Memorials can be made to the Son's of American Legion in Portland.
