Gail Compton, age 83, of Portland passed away on Thursday November 14, 2024 at her residence.  She was born in Portland on July 24, 1941 the daughter of Williard "Bill" and June (Frasher) Ireland.  She was married on July 24, 1960 to Ronald Compton and he passed away on May 10, 1991.  Gail had worked for Marsh Supermarkets for thirty five years and was assistant deli manager.   She was a 1959 Portland High School graduate, member of Tri Kappa Sorority and enjoyed knitting, loved her cats and enjoyed cooking for everyone.

Surviving are two sons Curt Compton (wife Christine) of Portland and Troy Compton (wife Dina) of Albany, three sisters in laws Sandy Ireland, Sally Ireland and Connie Walker all of Portland, Four grandchildren Samantha, Colton, Tory and Katey and two great grandchildren Benton and Nova.  She was preceded in death by a brother Gary Ireland.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 14th from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at the Portland Elk's Lodge.  Baird-Freeman Funeral Home are handling the arrangements.  Memorials can be made to Jay County Cancer Society or Kidney Foundation.  Online condolences at www.bairdfreeman.com
