Eugene "Gene" Jackson age 80, 1141 Wayside Place Portland passed away Sunday morning at his residence. He was born in Vincennes, Indiana on November 1, 1935 the son of George and Dorothy (Farmer) Jackson. He was married February 27, 1960 to Sharon Lynn Carter who survives. He had been the owner of Display Craft in Portland, member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, Board of Directors of Credit Union and was the voice in the Credit Union radio commercials. He served in the U. S. Air force and member of American Legion Post #211. He was former treasurer of the Jay County Hospital Aux and a salesman for Jewel-T.
Surviving are his wife Sharon, two sons Christopher Jackson (wife Kim) of Indianapolis and Rusty Jackson (wife Jennifer) of Washington D.C., one daughter Tracy Jackson of Portland, three brothers Ted Jackson of Riverside, CA, Donald Jackson of Logan, OH., and Fred Jackson of Portland, Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren Briar, Kelsey, Emily, Olivia, Ava, Ana, Ben, Christian, Madison, Benson and Duke.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Moran presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM with a scripture service at 7:00 PM and Thursday from 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the American Legion or Little Sisters of the Poor.
