Elvin L. Towell age 92, of Portland passed away Wednesday August 26, 2020 at Miller's Merry Manor in Dunkirk. He was born in Randolph County on August 20, 1928 the son of Harold and Vera Ethel (Stauffer) Towell. He retired from CTS in Berne and was a Jackson Twp Farmer. He was a 1949 Bryant High School graduate and served with the US Navy during WW II on the USS Missouri. He was a member of the Portland Moose Lodge and American Legion Post #211.
Surviving are two sons Harold Towell (wife Sandy) of Portland and Charles Towell of Geneva. Three daughters Wanda Ballard (husband Darrel) of Parrish, FL, Marilyn McCord (husband Russell) of Ft. Wayne and Margaret Lane of South Carolina, one brother Roy Emery of Ft. Recovery, one sister Clara Reitenour of Monterey, TN. 15 grandchildren and 15 Great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a son John Towell, two brothers Marvin Towell and Harry Emery and sister Ruth McMichael.
Funeral services will be held Monday August 31st at 10:00 AM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Herb Hummel presiding. Burial will follow in the Saratoga Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #211. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 – 4:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the American Legion Post #211 or Jay County Cancer Society.
