Dorothy J. Burgess, age 87, of Portland passed away on Tuesday September 3, 2024 at Persimmon Ridge Healthcare in Portland.  She was born in Portland on January 14, 1937 the daughter of David W. and Nettie Mildred (Ervin) Walker.  She was married on June 16, 1954 to Willord "Bill" Burgess and he passed away on April 15, 1994.  Dorothy retired from Franklin Electric, was a Portland High School graduate and enjoyed crocheting and embroidering.

Surviving is one son Terry Burgess of Portland, two daughters Carla Burgess (husband Greg Guntle) of Brownsburg and Ginger Shawver (companion Ed May) of Portland, one brother Perry Walker (wife Connie) of Portland, one sister Doris Zimmerman (husband Tom) of Portland, Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a brother David Dale Walker.

Funeral services will be Saturday September 7th at 11:00 AM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Stahl Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 – 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.
