Daniel B. Smith, age 80, of rural Jay County passed away on Wednesday April 8, 2026 at his residence.  He was born in Portland on July 27, 1945 the son of Melvin "Gene" and Geraldine (Cooper) Smith.  He was married on December 16, 1963 to Margaret Wiley who survives.  Daniel had worked for Pax Machine Works in Celina, Sheller-Globe and Indiana Glass.  He was a 1963 Dunkirk High School graduate and member of Church of Living God.

Surviving is his wife Margaret, one son Steven Smith (wife Marcie) of Liberty Twp., Ohio, two daughters Brenda Friddle (husband Ted) of Redkey and Michelle Penrod of Redkey, one brother Tim Smith of Portland, Grandchildren Mindy Glassford (husband Joe), Lindsay Friddle (wife Mindi), Brandon Friddle (wife Holly), Dylan Friddle (husband Scott), Craig Penrod (wife Summer), Stacey Penrod,  Corey Smith (wife Katie) and Brady Smith, Nineteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday April 26th at 2:00 PM in the Church of the Living God 234 West Main Street N, Castine, Ohio.  A gathering will follow in the church basement. Memorials can be made to the Church of the Living God. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland are handling the arrangements.
