Constance "Connie" McDowell, age 76, of Portland passed away on Saturday April 18, 2026 in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.  She was born in Portland on September 6, 1949 the daughter of Eugene and Margaret (Smith) Bebee.  She was married on May 27, 1972 to Carl McDowell who survives.  Connie was a RN with the Jay County Hospital for over forty years, she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dunkirk, Alter Sodality, 1967 Portland High School graduate and St. Joseph School of Nursing.  Connie enjoyed cross stitching, baking cookies and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving is her husband Carl, two sons Joseph McDowell and Steven McDowell both of Portland, two daughters Alana Shawver (husband Jeff) of Portland and Amanda McDowell of Bryant, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday April 25th at 10:00 AM in the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Kevin Hurley presiding.  Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland.  Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland.  Memorials can be made to Masses at the church.
