Clayton L. Hummel age 78, 107 West Main Street Bryant passed away Monday in the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. He was born in Banat, MI on June 5, 1938 the son of John and Eva (Stogan) Hummel. He was married August 4, 1958 to Betty McCoy and she died July 26, 2015. He had worked at Automatic Sprinkler in Monroe for over 30 years and retired from the Jay County Highway Dept. in 2000. He was a US Army veteran serving with the 101
st
Airborne. He was a 1956 Stephenson High School graduate, member of Bryant Lions Club, Bryant Volunteer Fire Dept., Bryant Town Council, Tri State Gas Engine and Tractor and Wheels of Yesteryear Antique Club.
Surviving are two sons Jeff Hummel (wife Dawn) of Monroe and Randy Hummel of Bryant., Eight brothers Arnold Hummel of Stephenson, MI, Martin Hummel of Beaver Dam, WI, John Hummel of Monominee, MI, Joseph Hummel of Chicago, Robert Hummel of Horlosville, WI, Rich Hummel of Stephenson, MI, Charles Hummel of Monominee, MI, and Allen Hummel of Daggett, MI, Two sisters Barbara Hanson of Daggett, MI and Ruth Engle of Green Bay, WI, Five grandchildren and Four great. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 AM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastors Paul Van Cise and Robert Schroeder presiding. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #211. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the Jay County Heart Fund of Diabetes Foundation.
