Carl E. Stump, age 87, of LaGrange, Indiana and a former Portland resident passed away on Monday February 9, 2026 in Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.  He was born in Fort Recovery, Ohio on January 23, 1939 the son of Simon and Sarah (Coby) Stump.  He was married to Patricia Ann Harshman and she passed away on July 16, 2022.  Carl had worked for Cochran-Heartland Hatchery in Portland as a manager and ran the breeder farm. He later was a manager for Lambright Hatchery in LaGrange and later retired as a shuttle driver for LaGrange Council on Aging.

Surviving is a son Chris Stump (wife Penny) of Hudson, Indiana and a daughter Robin Claassen (husband Keith) of Warsaw, Indiana, three grandsons Joseph Stephen (Tiffany) , Evan Stump (Nicole) and Gage Stump, three great grandchildren Allison Stephen, Brooklynne Stump and Noah Stump.

Funeral services will be Monday February 16th at 2:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Herb Hummel presiding.  Burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.  Memorials can be made to Jay County Cancer Society or Kidney Foundation.
