Betty J. Derringer age 78, of Van Wert, Ohio and former Portland resident passed away Sunday December 30, 2018 in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born in Hartford City, Indiana August 20, 1940 the daughter of Russell and Madge (Proper) Sills. She was married May 26, 1962 to Tommy J. Derringer who survives. She was retired from CTS in Berne after 40 years and was a graduate of Chester Center High School in Wells County.

Surviving are her husband Tommy, one sister Mary Jackson (husband Don) of Montpelier, Four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Vicky Derringer Heimann and a brother Charles Sills.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Hugh Kelly presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the choice of the donor.
