Just six days shy of her 96th birthday, Bettie Maurine Schafer ('Mrs. Schafer' to all the students she taught), Winchester, IN, decided to move forward into her next life. Bettie was born on August 3, 1921, to Harry H. and Blanche (Boze) Willits of Winchester, IN. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and graduated with her Master's degree in Education from Ball State University and began her teaching career that same year at Winchester High School, retiring from Winchester Community High School in 1988. She leaves to cherish her only child, Rebecca Lynn Schafer of Pendleton, IN. An open house celebrating Bettie's life will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2:00pm - 4:00pm at the Randolph County Historical Museum, 416 South Meridian Street, Winchester, IN. All are welcome.
